UTMT is full of surprises. Who would ever have expected to see a dressmaker going about her work in the reception area? The Hollmanns are always good for a surprise or two – and in actuality, this dressmaker’s is a fantastic service for guests. From local fabrics – jersey, Sinhalese-quality silk – Champika custom-sews dresses, pants and shirts. Many of the designs come from the Ingrid Thallinger Collection: wonderful pieces made of linen and silk, which are then tailored to your body right here. Or, have one of your favorite garments replicated in new materials …

It is always wonderful to see how comfortable guests feel the moment they check in. The weight of the daily grind falls from their shoulders, the corners of their mouths rise again, their eyes begin to gleam – in anticipation of what awaits them. And many of them – just between you and me, for the most part our female guests – are quick to discover yet another special highlight right there in the reception area: We have created a small shop, intended to answer all questions you might have when it comes to souvenirs from the UTMT. Typical small items from the island, handmade and as pure as Mother Nature intended: teas, cosmetics, fragrance sticks, bracelets, purses and much more.

The Hollmanns brought their collection of “Walz” crockery to the island with them - and because they don’t want to be the only ones to get joy out of them, close to Colombo they found a porcelain factory that manufactures replicas of the original plate.
